A work-based homeless transition facility operating at Silver Star Ranch in Calhan, Colorado.
Homelessness has become a growing challenge in all major cities of the U.S.A. Our work is in the state of Colorado specifically in the city of Colorado Springs and to some extent the City of Denver and the city of Pueblo. We believe that just as much as early childhood development education helps a child become academically developed, dealing with homelessness at its early stages will help people quickly get out of homelessness. It will also help protect people from other vices of homelessness such as drug use and mental illness.
Our philosophy is that training people experiencing homelessness for work skills and helping them find jobs will help them to be self-sustainable in homes of their own, it will also help our communities by freeing social resources to other needs.
Therefore, a solution that helps homeless individuals with employment will put incomes in the hands of the individuals so they can get out of homelessness. Our solution combines a transition program and a prolonged work-based program. This is accomplished at our farm. We are in the planning, engineering and design phase of building transition homes on the farm and starting farming activities to provide the necessary skills and discipline needed by homeless people before they can get into full time long-term employment. You may donate to our capital project by choosing the donate tab or by mailing us a check, please specify that your donation is for capital projects.
Training for work skills and finding employment will bring about the homeless individual’s ability to pay for their own housing costs and meet their own daily needs such as food and clothing.
